Hurricane Ida left in her wake much more than just the outwardly visible physical damage to our home. Aside from the stress of watching the interior of our home succumb to rainwater from a heavily damaged roof, we were left with the daunting question of, “Where will we start?”

In the weeks and months following the storm, we were overcome with knocks at the door, cards left in the mailbox, and numerous ‘Next Door’ nightmare stories. Additionally, we had received that ‘initial insurance check’ following our provider’s onsite inspection, which we knew was nowhere equal to the damage sustained.
As we prioritized our needs, we identified key performance indicators that anyone we partnered with should meet. Of greatest importance was partnering with a team knowledgeable of the insurance process who would be willing to work as a strong advocate in conversations with our provider. While some of the other indicators were intangibles (honesty, work ethic, follow-up, etc.,), we found through discussions with potential contractors that their answers, or lack thereof, regarding these items, helped in defining our options.

Working through the process of remediation with ServPro, we were introduced to MLR Builders, LLC as a prospect for the rebuild. I think what stood out initially was their no-pressure approach and openness to multiple walkthroughs as the remediation worked its course. During these interactions, we learned quickly there was a very layered team covering every aspect of the rebuild process: sales, pre-construction, and project management. As we shared with their team the specifics of our claim, they identified and explained areas where we knew work was warranted, but not compensated, and how to broach this discussion with our provider. Moreso, they were willing to be that voice for us. In the end, it was the assurances of those qualities we deemed most important that led to our decision to partner with MLR Builders LLC.

Working with the team of Lloyd, Leah, Morgan, Brice, Scott, and their crew was an exceptional experience. When responses from our provider’s desk adjuster stalled, a personal visit was made to our agent’s office on our behalf to escalate matters. There were multiple pre-construction walkthroughs ensuring they understood what we had laid out as a vision. And although this was an insurance-driven project, there were areas of our home we also wanted to update. MLR did an excellent job in separating those ‘out-of-scope’ items so as not to conflict with what was being submitted to insurance. In the end, we received the thoroughness, knowledge, and open communication we wanted in a contractor.

As for the project itself, we were provided a manageable timeline that was met. Since returning home, we have been nothing less than amazed at how they were able to build out our vision. The quality of the materials, the know-how of their team, and the diligence to work on our project were outstanding. I used MRL Builders to repair damage to my house after Hurricane Ida. From the get-go, everyone I dealt with was extremely professional, great at communicating, and very easy to deal with. I was very pleased with the quality of their work and they personally dealt with my insurance company regarding claims which was a godsend.
